This bronze Clivia miniata with a green throat variety has a very deep bronze color. With dark green leaves, the overall effect is spectacular. The mother plant is the best bronze in our collection. It is one of the best you will see anywhere.
At full maturity, the leaves average 21 inches in length, and 2 3/4 to 3 1/4 inches in width. Individual blossoms in the umbel are approximately 3 inches in diameter, with an overall flower ball diameter of approximately 8 inches. Typical umbels include 12 to 16 blossoms. At full maturity our Dark Bronzes are grown in 10 inch standard clay pots. As can be judged from these measurements the plant is somewhat compact. And the flowers are large.
The "for sale" divisions will need at least 13 leaves and a dormancy period before they will bloom. Typically Clivia add 4 leaves per year.
Genetically the plant’s parents are TC Bronze x Doomsday. Our collection mother plant was grown from seed imported from South Africa. The plants for sale are divisions from the mother plant. As such the "for sale" plants are identical genetic clones.
The impact of Colorado’s high altitude sunshine on the flower colors is unknown. The deep bronze and red colors all require a certain amount of ultraviolet sunlight to obtain the full benefit of red and bronze genetics. High altitude sunshine has more ultraviolet light than sunshine from lower altitudes. Since all our plants are grown in a greenhouse with glazing that filters out some ultraviolet light, the overall effect on the individual plants cannot be determined. The photos shown here were taken in our greenhouse.
