Traditional Yellow

Traditional Yellow

$ 70.00

In 1899 the name Clivia miniata var. citrina was first published based on a group of yellow Clivia miniatas discovered several years earlier in the forests of the KwaZulu-Natal region of South Africa.  Yellow Clivias were an immediate hit, and they remain special to this day.  Colorado Clivia's Traditional Yellow carries on that long established tradition.  Genetically our Yellow's are known as Group 1 Yellows--meaning that if you cross them with other Group 1 Yellows you will get, in most cases, a yellow flowering plant.

Clivia's normally require 13 leaves to bloom and under normal growth conditions add 4 leaves per year.  One umbel (flower) typically occurs each spring.  Dormancy periods are required to initiate blooming.  The photos are of two Traditional Yellow Clivias in our permanent collection.  Currently for sale are "Fully Mature" plants which have previously bloomed at least once.  These are big plants with a number of leaves.

Some of these plants are grown from seed.  Because of natural genetic variation in seed produced plants,  there may be differences in appearance between siblings.   Environmental differences between our Colorado location and your location may also cause differences in appearance.  All will bloom yellow because they or their division mothers have previously done so in our greenhouse.

These plants will be shipped bare root.  Free shipping is included via FedEx Ground, UPS Ground or USPS Priority Mail to continental United States addresses only.  Sorry we do not ship outside of the continental United States.  Please see our Terms and Conditions for additional information on shipping and other matters.
